Nessie

The lo-fi you can put on a lead vocal. Crispy but buttery vinyl warmth, wrapped around a crystal-clear core — never the muddy wreck most lo-fi leaves behind.

VST3 · Standalone · Windows · No iLok

Nessie plugin — Character, Tone, Aura, Motion, Vinyl, Space and Crush modules with the amber aura up top
The difference

Most lo-fi degrades your sound in series — muddy, aliased, gone. Nessie builds the character in parallel and keeps the clean core.

The character lands on the body of the sound — it follows the note and lets the noise fall away — so it stays musical even on a full chord. The vinyl noise ducks under your program and dodges your transients. You hear warmth and texture wrapping a clear center, not replacing it.

Inside the specimen/ 07

Crispy, buttery, and clear — at the same time.

Character

Warmth + crisp

Tube or tape colour with drive, warmth, and a crisp edge — the buttery-and-crispy core, oversampled so it never turns brittle.

Tone

Shape + clarity

Smooth the top, trim the lows, add air — the de-harsh that keeps the take crystal clear under all the grit.

Aura

Character that stays musical

The signature: the character lands on the body of the sound and the noise dodges your transients. Protect the take, grip it, bloom on held notes.

Motion

Wow + flutter

Perfectly imperfect pitch drift — record eccentricity, capstan flutter, and a random wander so the wobble never exactly repeats. Alive, not an LFO.

Vinyl

Surface texture that ducks

Crackle, hiss, rumble — texture that breathes. It ducks under your program and dodges transient onsets, so it reads as vintage, never dirty.

Space

Rotary + auto-pan

A rotary speaker and auto-pan for movement and width — from a gentle sway to a full spin.

Crush

Digital lo-fi

Bit-crush and sample-rate reduction — the digital-era grit, on tap for when you want it dirtier.

Field questions/ 11

Before you commit

Will it work in my DAW?

Nessie is VST3 + Standalone, Windows 10/11 (64-bit). If your DAW loads VST3 — FL Studio, Reaper, Ableton Live, Cubase, Studio One, and most others do — Nessie loads. Mac and AU are on the way; no date yet, and we won't guess one.

Do I need iLok or a subscription?

No, and no. One purchase. Your receipt contains a keyfile that works on all your own machines, offline, forever — no activation server, no phone-home, no machine lock. Nessie shows "Licensed to [your name]" in the plugin. Updates within v1 are included at no extra cost.

Can I try it before I buy?

Yes. The 14-day trial is the full plugin, every feature, nothing crippled. One trial per user. After 14 days an unlicensed copy inserts brief periodic silence — annoying, not destructive. The 30-day refund means you're covered after you buy as well.

What does "grit on the body, not the hiss" actually mean?

Most lo-fi tools add character by adding destruction across the board — the hiss gets gritty, the body gets gritty, everything gets gritty. Nessie keeps a clean core and puts the character in parallel, so the warmth and wear land on the sustained body of your sound. Stack it on a lead vocal and it still sounds like a lead vocal. That's the thing it does that other lo-fi tools don't.

What effects are in Nessie?

Character (saturation), Wow & Flutter, Vinyl noise and wear, Space (rotary speaker), Crush (bit and rate reduction), Tone, and an Aura panel showing you what's alive in your signal. One window. No routing to figure out.

Is this a destructive effect? Will it ruin my recordings?

No. The default Color setting is Tape — the character path runs warm and musical. Use the Mix control to blend to taste. If you go full Crush it will get aggressive on purpose, but the clean path is always underneath you.

What's the refund policy?

30 days from purchase, no interrogation.

What about Mac / Apple Silicon?

Mac is being worked on. No date. Windows 10/11 VST3 is shipping and tested now.
