The difference

Most echoes smear everything into mud. Mothman’s repeats keep what’s tuneful and let the noise fade away.

At the same feedback, a held note can ring out for ages while a noisy hit dies in a repeat or two — so you can drown a part in echo and it still stays clear. The aura reverb does the same with its tail: it blooms on the body of the sound and lets the wash fall away.

Before you commit

Will it work in my DAW?

Mothman is VST3 + Standalone, Windows 10/11 (64-bit). FL Studio, Reaper, Ableton Live, Cubase, Studio One, and most VST3-capable DAWs load it natively. Mac and AU are on the way; no date yet.

Do I need iLok or a subscription?

No, and no. One purchase. A signed keyfile arrives with your receipt and works on all your own machines, offline, no activation server, no machine lock, no phone-home. Mothman shows "Licensed to [your name]". Updates within v1 are free.

Can I try it before I buy?

Yes. The 14-day trial is the full plugin, every feature, nothing crippled. One trial per user. After 14 days an unlicensed copy inserts brief periodic silence. 30-day refund on purchase.

What does "holds the note and lets the noise go" actually mean?

Most reverbs treat every part of your signal the same — the sustain, the transients, the breath, the noise all get the same tail. Mothman's tail responds to the source. Hold a note and the tail blooms and sustains. Play a noisy, transient-heavy hit and the wash falls away instead of building up and muddying the mix. The effect is easier to hear than to describe; the 14-day trial is the right way to meet it.

What effects are in Mothman?

The reverb engine includes Clarity (keeps the musical body of the tail, clears the noisy wash), Sub Bloom (low-end weight that arrives on sustained single notes and goes quiet on chords and noise), Bloom, Lure (tonal repeats linger; noisy repeats die — at the same feedback setting), and Wake (a faint tail carrying a ghost of recent notes across a rest). There's also a tempo-synced Delay and a Movement strip for chorus and drift. The reverb category is Aura Reverb.

How is this different from Valhalla or another lush reverb?

Great lush reverbs give you a beautiful, consistent tail regardless of what goes into them. That's right for a lot of music. Mothman's tail is not static — it responds to the source, so the character of what you play shapes the character of the space. It's a different creative tool, not a replacement for what you already have.
